Welcome to our FAQ section. Thanks to CBD, we are living in a virtual “Marijuanaissance”! Loosening of cannabis laws and the enthusiasm around the emerging science of its profound efficacy have legitimized the medicinal claims surrounding CBD. It’s understandable you may have some questions. We hope we can answer some below.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 80 compounds called cannabinoids extracted from the cannabis sativa plant. The two most well-known of these are CBD, which does not get you high, and THC, which does. CBD didn’t pique much interest until the early 2000s when scientists started studying the health benefits of low-THC strains. Most of the media attention has come from its use in controlling treatment-resistant epilepsy, and it has been known to help to everything from anxiety to breast cancer.

What is THC?

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, the main compound found in marijuana plants. THC is what gives marijuana its psychoactive properties or “high” effects. THC

How does CBD work?

Our bodies make our own cannabis-type chemical called, anandamide, also known as the “bliss molecule”. CBD naturally elevates the levels of your own endocannabinoids.  Increasing anandamide in your body and brain. It has anti-inflammatory effects, but it also aids with other receptors. If you ingest CBD in a supplement or edible, it enters the bloodstream just as any supplement does, by connecting with the endocannabinoid receptors.

Is CBD legal?

Yes, if it’s extracted from industrial hemp and labeled correctly. The 2018 Farm Bill loosened regulations on CBD by allowing the cultivation of industrial hemp (i.e. cannabis with less than 0.3 percent THC content) and dropping hemp-derived products from the list of Schedule 1 drugs. 2018 Farm Bill As of now, the FDA has only approved one CBD-powered drug called Epidiolex, used to treat seizures in children with rare types of epilepsy. Each state also has its own law regarding the legality of CBD and therefore the legality of CBD products can vary from state to state. The Federal Government on CBD is confusing and depends in part on whether the CBD comes from hemp or marijuana. The legality of CBD is expected to change, as there is currently bipartisan consensus in Congress to make the hemp crop legal which would, for all intents and purposes, make CBD difficult to prohibit.

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana are basically classified as the same plant; they are different names for the same genus (cannabis) and species. Hemp and marijuana even look and smell the same. The difference is that hemp plants contain no more than 0.3 percent of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive substance found in marijuana. By comparison, marijuana typically contains 5 to 20 percent THC. You can’t get high on hemp. In other words, Cannabis plants with 0.3 percent or less of THC are hemp. Cannabis plants with more than 0.3 percent THC are marijuana. Hemp vs Marijuana.

Is CBD the only cannabinoid in the hemp plant?

No. CBD is one of many cannabinoids within the hemp plant, but it’s currently the most popular one being researched for potential wellness benefits.

Why is CBD so popular?

Whether you’re a cannabis enthusiast or skeptic, you cannot miss the current craze over all things CBD. Despite its shaky legal status and regulation standards, CBD products like oils, tinctures, lotions, and gummies have become some of the most in-demand wellness products on the market. In 2019, retailers like CVS/Walgreens jumped on the bandwagon, launching new lines of CBD lotions, lip balms, facial sprays, and more. What was once considered “alternative care” is now breaking out into the mainstream in a significant way. And studies show CBD will only continue to grow in its popularity in the coming years. It is also popular, because simply out…it works!
